This website is a collection of Media Studies Capstones completed by a select group of intercollegiate majors at the Claremont Colleges.  They include students from Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps Colleges.  

Media Studies is an intercollegiate major offered jointly by Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona and Scripps Colleges, together forming Intercollegiate Media Studies (IMS).  IMS at the Claremont Colleges is one of the first undergraduate programs in the United States to combine theory, history, and practice, integrating critical studies and media production.  For more info on IMS, click here.

Our graduating seniors' Capstone papers and projects demonstrate the interdisciplinary, praxis-based, and diverse character of our program.  Together, they address topics and issues including data security and surveillance, media industry and production, intersectional identities, as well as digital and other new media forms.  The students presenting their work here have conducted year-long independent research and production Capstones in their chosen specialty area as culminations of their undergraduate media studies education.  While most of IMS's senior majors complete their Capstones during the fall semester, this select group has self-elected as well as been approved by the IMS faculty to engage in year-long papers and projects.

These students began this semester on campus, building on their work from the fall in person, going through group critiques, peer reviews, meetings with their faculty advisors, drafts, rough cuts, and other in-person work that are now impossible due to the remote learning model the Claremont Colleges have collectively adopted as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Working in a variety of living situations and different time zones, our students have persevered and continued with their work, demonstrating their resourcefulness and dedication.  This web site celebrates their success and documents their achievements, both individually and collectively.
